Design & Construction
The Department of Public Works executes the County’s Capital Plan for the improvement of the County’s roadways through effective and economic utilization of human and fiscal resources. Some of the goals are to maintain a robust system, manage outside consultant services, and maximize in house Public Works Engineers working in highway design. Duties include selecting and prioritizing roadways for appropriate capital improvements, preparing design reports, detailing plans and technical specifications in-house, and managing engineers and consulting engineers to complete projects for construction.
The Cuyahoga County Sanitary Engineering Division protects, preserves and promotes the public health and welfare of Cuyahoga County residents by maintaining and operating sanitary sewage facilities and stormwater drainage within a sewer district. The division’s purpose is to achieve high quality in streams, in rivers and in Lake Erie. Duties include improving the carrying capacity of the County operated sewer system, selecting and prioritizing sewers and sewage pumping stations for appropriate capital improvements, and maintaining a robust sewer planning and design program to address the specific needs of member communities.
The Bridge Design Division executes the County’s Capital Plan for the improvement of the County’s bridges, culverts and other structures. The Division works to increase the average General Appraisal Rating of the County’s Bridge inventory, manage outside consultant services effectively to receive the maximum benefit, and pursue professional development of the engineering staff through continuing education.
The Construction Division of the Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works is dedicated to working seamlessly and transparently with government agencies, as well as stakeholders and contractors, to deliver high quality infrastructure improvements for the advancement of Cuyahoga County. Providing first rate management services to the residents of Cuyahoga County, quickly and efficiently resolving construction related issues and concerns as they develop on projects related to residents, stakeholders, funding partners and businesses are just some of this division’s goals.
