Hot in the Summer at the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter

By: Mindy Naticchioni, Administrator of the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter

As the summer heat gets underway, the event calendar at the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter (CCAS) gets hot too!  Whether it’s promoting dogs and cats for adoption, raising funds for the Dick Goddard Best Friends Medical Relief Fund or hanging out at local events around the county, there is something for everyone to do.

4th Annual Tails on the Town, Sat. June 17th, 2017

Tails on the Town
CCAS’s most popular event is back and even better! This year’s event features a Bar[k] Crawl and Scavenger hunt kicking off from our favorite dog named downtown bar, the Velvet Dog. Participants will download a free version of Scavify that will lead their teams to find items, take pictures, and of course do some drink challenges. As teams wind their way through W.6th and hunt for items, they will visit the Nauti Mermaid, Map Room, Barley House, Liquid and back to the Velvet Dog for the after party and awards ceremony.

The Velvet after party will feature bartending celebrity guests Chocolate Charlie and Jeffrey from Rover’s Morning Glory and Bill Squire and Poundcake from the Alan Cox show.  What’s more, KISS FM’s Party Pana will be spinning tunes on the rooftop!

Teams can register at www.cuyahogadogs.com or at the shelter. Each team will pick a name and celebrity guest to be their Captain. Teams also have the option of purchasing one of the celebs to join their team this year!  It is sure to be a great time with lots of prizes and laughs along the way. Be sure to join one of the best parties of the year as the proceeds benefit the dogs at CCAS!

Adopt-A-PaloozaAdopt-A-Palooza, Friday June 30th thru Sunday July 2nd, 2017

Peace, Love and Shelter Dogs Rock is how we feel about our 3rd Annual Adopt-A-Palooza event. This three-day event drops adoption prices on all available dogs to only $40 with the goal of clearing the shelter!

The 4th of July holiday is one of the largest intake times of year for shelter’s across the country. To ensure we have room for all those pups coming in, yearly we try and clear out and find homes for all our dogs. Adoption fees are only $20 plus the $20 dog license. The fees include your new friend’s spay/neuter, vaccinations including rabies, dog license and microchip.  All adopters will get goodie bags and other great freebies for adopting during the event.  Food trucks and vendors will also be onsite to help make the event a blast!

Last year 62 dogs found homes during this three-day event and it was featured on msn.com!
